Transmission Media:
• Transmission media means the way data is transferred from one node to another on a network.
• The computer in a network can be linked by cables.
Two sorts of transmission media:
1) Physical transmission media/Guided media/Wired
• Twisted-Pair Cable,• Coaxial Cable,• Fiber-Optic Cable.
2) Wireless transmission media/Unguided media/Wireless
- Infrared,
- Broadcast Radio,
- Cellular Radio,
- Microwave,
- Satellite.
Physical Transmission Media
Device Description of guided media(Physical Transmission Media)
Twisted Pair Cable:
• Twisted-pair cable consists of single or more twisted-pair wires bundled together.
Coaxial Cable:
Coaxial cable Consists of one copper wire surrounded by a minimum of three layers:
1.An insulant2.A woven or braided metal3.A plastic outer coating .
Fiber Optic Cable:
Fiber optic transmission media that uses glass or plastic fiber to hold light (laser) signals.
Wireless Transmission Media:
• Infrared:
• Infrared (IR) light is usually used in TV remotes.• It could also be used in printers, wireless keyboards and mouse.
• Broadcast radio (Bluetooth, Ultra Wideband (UWB)
• Cellular Radio (2G,3G,4G) A sort of broadcast radio that's used widely for mobile communications, specifically wireless modems and cell phones.
• Microwave transmission, often called fixed wireless, involves sending signals from one microwave station to a special .
• Communications Satellite could also be an area platform that receives microwave signals from an earth-based station, amplifies (strengthens) the signals, and
- Broadcasts the signals back over an honest area to any number of earth-based stations.
