Common Nouns

Common nouns are names for things in general. They are not specific. For example:

- dog (any dog)

- city (any city)

- teacher (any teacher)

 Proper Nouns

Proper nouns are special names for specific things. They always start with a capital letter. For example:

- Spot (a specific dog)

- New York (a specific city)

- Ms. Smith (a specific teacher)

Example:

- If you say “dog,” it could be any dog (common noun).

- If you say “Spot,” it’s a special name for one dog (proper noun).

Common nouns are names for general items, people, places, or animals. They are the everyday names we use for things. They do not start with a capital letter unless they are at the beginning of a sentence.

Book (any book)


Proper Nouns

Proper nouns are the specific names of people, places, or things. These names are unique and always start with a capital letter.

Examples:

Mr. Johnson (a specific person)

Disneyland (a specific place)

The Cat in the Hat (a specific book)
